Meet the Staff

J'Wanna Spann, MA, LPC, Founder, Executive Director

I have over ten years working in the counseling field. My background is with children, adolescents, teenagers, young adults, adults, and elderly. Pretty much I have worked with just about all age groups. I prefer to work with preteens, teens, young adults, adults, and elderly.  However, I am certainly open to serving young children and families especially those struggling with anxiety, depression, suicidality, ODD, adjustment disorders, ADHD, and ADD.

My background includes working with serious and persistent mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorders, anxiety disorders, and major depressive disorder. I specialize in treating signs and symptoms of low self-esteem, self-harm behaviors, suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety (social, generalized anxiety, etc.), trauma (PTSD and other trauma-related, sexual abuse, and physical abuse), and personality disorders, specifically borderline personality, dependent personality, and unspecified personality disorders. I have limited experience working with narcissistic personality and antisocial personality disorders as well as obsessive compulsive disorders. I truly enjoy using different forms of therapies to help individuals get unstuck and thrive in life. I am nonjudgmental in my approach and enjoy challenging others to see their true potential. No matter what problems or issues you may have, I know one size does not fit all. I guarantee that before we address your concerns, I will provide you with a secure space and then guide you through the form of therapy that will assist you.

When I am not engage in therapy, I enjoy spending time with my family and my two animals (a cat and a small dog that are rotten beyond repair). I enjoy laughter and joking around because it helps to improve my mood as well as others around me. I enjoy walking on the beach or listening to the sound of waves and/or nature. Many people that know me always talk about my smile. I believe that life is too short and precious to dwell on what we have no control over changing. I strive to look at life like a glass full of opportunities, goals, and accomplishments.

Gwendolyn Spann, Volunteer Receptionist

Mrs. Spann works from a remote location to assist with paperwork and ensuring that calls and emails are returned. She agreed to work, only as needed as she is retired from the workforce (worked 30 years as a Quality Assurance/Auditor). She is a major asset to Grey Dove Counseling.

When she is not working, Mrs. Spann enjoys spending time with her family, spoiling her grandchildren, and preparing dinners for close friends and family.
